My name is Brian Kim and I was born in S. Korea in 1981. When I was 14 years old, my family decided to move to Southern California in 1996. I went to high school and college here in So. Cal., and I received B.S. degree in Computer Science from UCLA in 2005.
Right after college, I started working at Bobit Business Media as an intern web developer. Now, I am a full-time web developer at the same company building websites using ASP.NET and little bit of ColdFusion.
Programming Life
I first started programming when I was in elementary school. I think it was when I was about 9 years old. My parents sent me to this private institute, after school-like place, in the hopes to find something I like other than regular school studies. They had 8-bit and 16-bit computers back then, and I learned GW-Basic on those computers. Learning GW-Basic wasn't easy, but it got be hooked. Programming challenge was stressful most of the time, but the feeling that came when problems were finally solved made be to keep going, I guess. I think I went to this place and learned programming for a few years. During this time, I got hooked on another thing. Games.
Gaming Life
This is what actually kept me in front of the computer even after I finished (stopped?) learning GW-Basic. I was all into computer/video games from late elementary school years. I still am into games now. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I do play my Xbox360 every once in a while.
Becoming a Programmer
During junior year in high school, I decided on the path of my future. It was... sitting in front of a computer for living. I wanted to do work with computers for my career. I went to Santa Monica College and took some Computer Science and programming classes and thought... "I think I could do this for living and... be happy!" And I never looked back. I transferred to UCLA and finished by B.S. degree there and jumped right into web development field.
I love what I do now, and with this blog, hopefully I'll become a better developer by communicating with other developers around the world.
